What is photorejuvenation?
Photorejuvenation is an Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatment that drastically reduces the appearance of age spots, freckles, spider veins, facial redness (rosacea), and sun damage.* IPL emits multiple wavelengths into the skin to target pigment producing cells below the surface. The light energy is converted to heat energy and that heat destroys the excessive melanin-producing cells, eventually dispersing pigmented areas.* Photorejuvenation can be used on the face, décolleté (also known as your chest), neck area, and hands.
Is photorejuvenation right for me?
Patients with dark tans or melasma are not good candidates. The light rays are attracted to pigment, and as a result, darker skin tones may become discolored and melasma patches may darken. During your consult at B You Body and Skin Care Solutions, your provider will assess and determine if IPL is the best treatment for your personal aesthetic goals.
What can I expect from the treatment?
Photorejuvenation is not traditionally described as painful, but it may be uncomfortable for some patients. Often times patients describe the sensation as similar to a rubber band snapping on their skin. While the length of the treatment varies depending on the treatment area, a facial procedure can take up to 45 minutes and may leave the skin slightly red or puffy. Otherwise, there is no downtime post-treatment and patients are free to return to their normal skin care routine immediately.
When will I notice my results?
Your results will improve over time; final results can be seen after three months.* Sun protection and skin care maintenance are essential to the longevity of your results, and a new series of treatments are recommended every year for optimal outcomes. Sunburns and over exposure will bring back old spots and freckles, so be sure to wear your sunscreen!
